Arestin?

We just had an Arestin rep come to our office. Of course they were aggressive and trying to sell the product. My instructors in school were anti-Arestin so I did not learn about it or use it in any way. I understand prescribing an antibiotic can be beneficial but was wondering if anyone has used it and seen great results rather than just doing S/RP? I know it can be case by case but just wanted to know what other offices do.

We use it in conjunction with SRP. I’ll be completely honest with you, I’m not sure if the positive tissue response is from arestin + SRP or SRP alone. Arestin increases hygiene production $$$, but as far as results I feel that mostly comes from the mechanical SRP. It seems like years ago it was an industry standard but lately I’m hearing more and more controversy over using arestin. Why were your instructors opposed?

I’ve never been a huge fan myself. It’s expensive and I’ve not seen awesome results from using it. I think a great up and comer will be Triology.

I agree with you both. I don’t know 100% why they were opposed. I didn’t exactly know about it in school they just addressed it once and then we didn’t go back. I think it was because the studies that were done weren’t enough to convince them that it was a huge advantage.
