Compensation

Are there any hygienists that have or feel they need a contract with their employers? If
so what is included in the contract?

I had a contract one time and basically it included what the Dr. had agreed to pay with regards to salary, vacation time and sick days. Since I was being paid on commission it also included a base pay for those days that production was not met. This would insure that I would still get paid something even if my patients did not show up. I also included what he agreed to pay for with regards to uniform allowance and also paying for continuing education. For the most part is was a safe guard so that there were no issues with what was agreed to. I also added that in case of dismissal I would be given a 30 notice not just the regular two weeks and that I would give the same notice if I wanted to quit. It worked well my main reason was because this office had a high turnover and I wanted job security. I have not used one since leaving that office.

I have never had a contract, but worked for one dentist long time ago that it probably would have been beneficial to have one. Never thought I needed one anywhere else.

Never had a contract either. I do have yearly reviews and it includes a page of like and dislikes and what to improve upon and what ideas there are for the next year. Also includes how much my health insurance cost the company and if I get a raise. I have to sign and date it as well as the boss.

I have never had a contact but we do have an employee fact sheet that you have to sign. It just goes over benefits and office policies though.

This is the first job I have had WITHOUT one. 22 years as an RDH last 8 in current office. during my VERY informal review I take notes , afterwards I type them up , we both sign it and keep a copy each.
