hygiene temps

Do you think temps should make more, same, or less than staff hygienist? Remember they have to pay more in taxes. They may or may not be able to claim milage.

I’m not sure what state you live in but our temps make the same as the rest of the hygienists because we are paid straight commission. It works well and keeps everyone on the same playing level so to speak.

I used to temp and asked for $2. more an hour. There is the tax issue and no benefits are paid, plus you are doing the practice a pretty big favor by being there, sometimes on short notice.

temps where I live make more (especially if taxes not taken out). you are doing a favor to the office (if short notice, sick, etc) so it is not unreasonable to ask to be compensated for that. Also, I really dislike subbing because I feel like the most annoying person asking the other hygienists, assistants, where everything is! lol not my favorite part either 🙂

I think they should make the same but in many cases we have used temps in my office and paid them $47 an hour where I get $45. It makes me upset because in my particular office the Dr wants things done a certain way with every pt. This means I have to spend my time helping the temp to find her way around and how to follow the system in our office. I have my own schedule to keep and I’m being paid less so taxes or not I think its only fair to be paid the same.

Temps in my state make $42/hr last I heard, and I make quite a bit more than that at my full time job, plus benefits. Not sure why there is such a discrepancy, just glad I’m not temping full time!

Temp agencies are 360 to 385 daily rate here in Maryland. Unfortunately the full time of poem jobs are scarce and Benicia are few.

If we use a temp agency, the hygienists usually are paid at a higher rate. However, if we fin our own temp from our local call group they get paid the same.

Usually the temp hygienists get paid higher since taxes aren’t taken out.

I feel like it is okay if the temps are paid a higher wage since their taxes are not taken out and they typically work less hours. I feel like in my area they do get paid about the same though.

I started working for a temp agency and they pay me at least $3-5 more an hour than any office I had interviewed at was offering me to work as staff. However, I live in a state that already pays quite a bit less than some because of the cheap cost of living.
