Loupes! Should I or Shouldn’t I?!

I am currently a DH student just starting out in clinic and recently, my school/instructors put together a loupes fair for us. It was amazing and overwhelming all at the same time! My question is, should I invest in my own pair of loupes??? I don’t want to buy them and never use them, and I don’t want to NOT buy them and wish I had them?! I really like the brands Q-Optics and Designs for vision. Which brands do you ladies use/have/love? ALSO, if I get loupes, should I get the light attachment with it? Everyone I have talked to so far (both dentists and hygienists) have been 50/50. So I am on the fence and looking to gather more info and personal experiences! Please, help this student out! Any advice or comments would be much appreciated!

Most definitely! Make sure they’re light in weight! I bought a pair of Hoagies in college rarely wore them. Now I have a pair of Orascoptics with the endeavor light & it’s amazing! It’s an adjustment to practice in, well worth it!

During DH school I was required to purchase loupes. I am so grateful it was a requirement. I don’t know how hygiensits survive without them. I also bought an attached light thinking it would be great. The light I purchased was on the cheaper end and it became so heavy throughout the day that I no longer use it. I would invest in your own pair. They can be challenge to adjust to at first.

I have been practicing for over 30 years and bought my first pair through Designs for Vision in April. I wish I had bought them years ago. The light is a must for me! I have been wondering how much I’ve missed over the years not having them.

I have loupes by Oroscoptic with the endeavor light and I LOVE them! It forces me to sit with great posture because if I start to bend my back to get closer my field of vision becomes blurry. I purchased them while in school which allowed me time to adjust to them and get some practice before I graduated. The light is my favorite part because I never work in a shadow and I’m not constantly needing to readjust the overhead light thus eliminating unnecessary shoulder movement. It’s definitely an investment well worth your money.

Loupes and light a must. Try postredontics before making a decision. You almost need a chair to go with all of the ergonomic package. Research declination angle for loupes too because after loupes my issues with neck pain etc improved some, but I force my chin down too much because I got smaller frames with a small declination angle. You want your chin to be more perpendicular to the floor and a steep declination angle would have done just that…..and my neck wouldn’t hurt as much. Posturedontics have product reviews on chairs, loupes, lights etc……

I’ve been wearing orascoptic loupes since DH school and recently purchased a light. Can’t live without either!

It was a requirement for me to purchase in school and the BEST thing ever! Another perk is you get them at a discount while in school with great warranty! I have orascoptic with a light and they are AWESOME! I could NEVER work without them!!! Orascoptic will also help you choose a frame that works for you and will make sure your loupes are a perfect fit for you, your facial structure, your current posture, and working distance. If you ever feel they are ‘off’ then orascoptic will adjust them for you! Do yourself the favor, save your body the hurt of working without loupes. You will have an adjustment period to get used to them, but when you do you will never work without them!!
