Missing calculus during SRP

Lately I feel like I’m missing a lot of calculus during my SRPs. I take BWX at the end to check myself and still miss areas. I go back to remove the spots I missed but sometimes due to time, I feel like I’m not removing it completely. What do I do about this? I feel like I have enough time for the SRP but just struggle removing calculus.

If this is a “new” problem it may be your instruments. Are your instruments and inserts passed their prime? Or do you need to sharpen your instruments? Depending on several factors, instruments only last 6-18 months. If you have a wear card for your inserts, check to make sure they aren’t overly worn.

Make sure you are using proper instrumentation technique – angulation and adaptation. As my hygiene school instructors constantly repeated, “Open a door knob and no lazy fulcrums!” Keep in mind that even with the best technique, if your instruments are overly worn, you are almost certain to miss or burnish calculus.
