Yes- products I sell go towards my personal daily production, but thankfully I don’t have to “sell” anything nor do we even have elect tbs for sale. The products are Opalescence Whitening gel, Prevident Gel and Prevident 5000 Booster, and Phos-Flur. Many times we also give these products away at no charge, which is then listed in the ledger so patients are aware they were given a benefit.

We sell sonicare, among many other products and it does NOT go toward production. We do not sell these products to make $. We sell most at cost to help better our patients oral health.

We carry Periogard or an off brand. Rotadent and the brush heads. Fluoride Gel and Clinpro fluoride toothpaste. Love…love….love the MouthWatchers Manual Toothbrush. Anything that comes from my room is walked out in the computer under my name. I get a bonus if I make more than the previous years month. Example: April 2014 I produced $2000 more than April 2013 I get a bonus on the next pay period. It’s never a goal hard to reach most of the time. There hasn’t been a set amount of how much more than previous or how much my bonus is. It’s anywhere from $200 to $600 for a bonus.

I am a temporary hygienist and work in many different offices. I have worked in offices where we did sell products and I have found it works best for the office and the hygienist if the products they sell either goes towards your personal production if you are working towards a bonus, or if you get a small portion of each product you sell (like 10%). If you want a hygienist to also be a salesman, you need to give them an incentive.
Personally I do not like to be a salesman. I often research products I like and let my patients know the cheapest place to get them. I call the companies and request coupons to give my patients. I love an office that has a wide variety of goody bag tools. If I think someone needs a rubbertip, they have it for me to show the patient how to use it and take it home for free so they can get started right away. I most enjoy helping patients get the products and services they need at prices they can afford. When working in a sales oriented office, I often feel self oriented instead of patient oriented, because I do get a small thrill out of making my production goals.

We sell sonicare, whitening syringes, vizilite, fluoride, arestin, atrodox and air flossers. Yes we do work by production and reports are pulled every day. Each hygienist must make a certain amount or the “goal”. when the entire office reaches the monthly office goal then and only then can everyone get a bonus. This to me is nonsense because the hygienist work so hard to make our goal and in the last 3 years I have seen a bonus 2 times! Every month I usually get a pat on my back and they say sorry avey but even though you met your goal the entire office did not meet our number! I hate it!

Office used to sell sonicare and oral-B electric toothbrushes, but no more. We sold them at cost, but had too many pts who thought we were responsible for a lifetime replacement guarantee on the product! They break it and are mad when we didn’t replace it! I love not selling them. It never counted toward my production. I have both models in the operatory to demonstrate and show pros/cons of each.

We sell Oral B, bottles of chlorhexadine, Fluoridex toothpaste and M/I paste, as well as Breath Rx. Selling does go toward production, but our hygiene production goals are so high I’ve only gotten bonus once in over 2 years. The hygienists in my office are on a separate bonus system from the rest of the office — the other employees get bonus all the time because the office as a whole has met their goal.

We do at my office offer to our patients Prevident, Whitening for Life, MI Paste,Sonicare Toothbrushes and Tooth and Gum Tonic. We are soon to have Waterpiks . I feel half of the patients like the convenience and half find that we turned into a selling type of practice. It does go towards our production which gets checked by the doctor every night.

We sell electric toothbrushes. However, we sell them below cost, so no, I don’t get a kick back from selling them to a patient. It’s truly for the patients’ benefit that we do that. I know most offices don’t do it that way, but I think it’s a nice thing for my doctors to do.

We sell Sonicare, fluoide products, Carifree products, xylitol products, and whitening products. They are all for patient convenience and not with big markups, so no commission is made by staff.
