administering local in a pediatric office

I am interested in becoming licensed to administer local anesthesia. I currently work in a pediatric office. There is no financial benefit for being licensed in our office(there is no pay increase.) We are expected to administer local anesthesia for the doctor on almost all of his work patients on top of our normal hygiene work load. Which gives you more work to do for the same pay. Is it wrong of me to expect a pay increase for more work expected out of me? I’m considering not taking the course because of the increased work load for no extra compensation. Please help!

I work in Oregon and we all have anesthetic endorsement. I have always worked with doctors that utilize the hygienists for anesthetic and I love it. The pay does not differ but the assistants pick up the slack. When I am administering anesth. the assistants are polishing for me, taking films, or sitting in on an exam. I never get behind and get to do something besides scaling. 🙂

Extra education is always beneficial to have whether the pay is increased. The injections will be different as well as dosages for children compared to adults. Make sure during your course you discuss that you will be injecting children and learn tips and tricks due to the smaller size.
