I remember feeling that way, like how am I supposed to go from 4-8 hours to one?? But without someone hovering over you and all the paperwork that goes along with school patients, you’ll be surprised how manageable it is. It’s kind of a different world from school, but you’ll get into a routine. Just keep an eye on the clock and budget your time accordingly! Good luck, you’ll be fine!
Just know all of us have felt exactly the way you feel right now. I found that only hand scaling was for the birds my first week out. Then I was like….omg! This HVE and cavitron is not working well for me. I found the blue boa attachment that works with the HVE and several different saliva ejectors. My fav is the hygoformic saliva ejector used with the blue boa lets me still use my mirror and sucks all that water out fast! I also hated how the prophy angle would splatter spit and paste everywhere and discovered “the twist” prophy angle by crosstex. Air polisher is fast too. If probing alone then only mark any above 4mm PD and AL etc. I thought I’d never ever use the mirror for the lingual….. Hahaha……I learned really fast. Most offices will help you since you are new until you get your routine down. You’ll be great. We all still run behind on occasion. That’s life in the real world.
It is absolutely normal to feel this way. I’m sure we’ve all felt that way on entering the working world. We recently hired a new graduate and she expressed the same concerns. She has done great and had no problems keeping up. I know you will do great too. Google luck and welcome aboard!
You’ll be slower at first but you get fast pretty quick. I did a lot of temping before I got a permanent job which helped a lot to build my confidence and speed.
