Broken Cavitron Tips

I keep my Cavitron dial at 11 o’clock and the water on medium. In the past 2 months, I’ve broke two of my tips when doing SRP! What am I doing wrong? These things aren’t cheap!

I should add… do tips generally come with any kind of warranty or replacement/repair options?

If the stacks are heating up too much, you may need to turn the water up. If it’s the tips, you may be applying too much pressure. Remember, with an ultrasonic, pressure is not needed like it is with hand scaling. Also, keep the cards that come with the inserts that show when you need to replace. I’ve seen hygienists using too much pressure because the inserts were actually worn out and therefore less effective, which can lead to breakage. I hope this helps!

I would ask your dental rep about warranty info, they should know that kind of info!

Typically they will replace within a certain ammount of time but you will have to check with your rep! They can usually make it happen!
