Calcium and tori/torus

A patient presented the other day with questions about tori and whether the calcium was leeched from jawbone or if it was considered deposited calcium in excess. Has anyone come across this answer in their studies?

Tori do not leech calcium from the mandible. Tori are extra bony growths. While bone contains calcium, I wouldn’t necessarily describe them as extra deposited calcium, but as an excess of bone all together. Interesting question!
