CAMBRA

Any Feedback/comments/suggestions on implementing the CAMBRA program (caries management by risk assessment). Does anyone have any experience being the first to implement into their practice, if so, pros/cons? Anything you would’ve done differently?

In our practice one of the dentists does most of the camera screenings and it has really helped. Originally we were going to try to have the hygienists do it during their re care appointments but we never had enough time. Now when we see someone who is a moderate or high risk we screen them with a sheet by the Ada and then have them come bck for a half hr appointment with the new dentist.

My office have just recently heard the buzz of CAMBRA. My dentist is currently taking a bunch of courses on this issue one by a Dr. Leeann Brady. As soon as I am up to speed I will let you know.

My dentist wants to implement this into the practice, we are researching it now on how to get it started. It seems there are company’s out there that are trying to “sell” a product line that in turn we “sell” to the patients. It is expensive and I think that what CAMBRA recommends for high risk patients at home care is in the stores.

I just attended a CE …on this…some of the charting can be tricky one of the risk assessments is eating habits, what when how often duration..it’s a lot. A fellow RDH’s office does it and she said its a time suck, and simple dialog is more effective.

Cambra is not hard at all honestly but then again we did this in hygiene school so this was not new to me. we have the brochures w/ the questions for the risk factors and the answers to each have a rating of low mod or high basically you add up the points on the back it has listed preventive things that can be done in practice or even things that can be done by the pt for each category. Examples sealants are things we can do as clinicians, topical fl2. Pts- diet modifications, proper home care etc. it’s a tool ultimately to better serve our patients, and to reinforce everything we already suggest/ recommend to these patients as well as allows the patient to be proactive in prevention
