Can I become a hygienist if I already have hand pain

I would suggest speaking to your doctor about if practicing dental hygiene is an option for you. Further, I would recommend speaking to your doctor about the cause and treatment options for your hand pain.

Dental hygiene is hard on your body. In school, hygienists do learn ergonomics, which can lower the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, but sometimes that’s not enough. No one can guess the future about if one hygienist will develop injuries or not or how long a hygienist can work. I can’t really say if any injuries are “curable.” That’s up to a doctor and dependent on the type of injury.
