Career change

Is there anyone out there that has successfully changed careers away from dental hygiene. Or just from private practice. Thinking about leaving clinical dental hygiene after 19years.

I got my RN before my BS in dental hygiene. Because there is very few hygiene jobs, (I am presently working 1-2 days/wk-)I had to go back & do nursing. Luckily, found my niche in legal nurse consulting which pays 3 x/s the amount of hygiene. I still love & do hygiene-but because I couldn’t find enough work I landed on this and it is awesome. I lucked out.

I actually had a friend that got so frustrated with her practice that she changed careers. She currently works for Crest lol. Not sure How she is doing financially.

I have left private practice except for temporary work for offices I really like. I live in Oregon where we have expanded dental hygiene and I now work on my own seeing people that have access to care issues, this has mainly been the elderly for me but I know a couple of other hygienists that are doing sealants and prophys for children whose parents don’t have insurance or the available funds for dentistry.
So far, I am loving it. Although I am still performing the functions of a hygienist, I love being independent and setting my own schedule!!
