I have a case study to finish up on this week. I’m positive that I’m right on point with everything except the ethics question.
The case is a 12 yr old boy, that has tried smokeless tobacco once and his mother does not know about it. The question is should I tell her and if I do… is there or isn’t there a law saying that Im obligated to.
I know this is not answered in time with your case study…..but, I think that 12 years of age is a minor and the parent is the guardian of said minor and should be notified of the smokeless tobacco use. It is a touchy subject to discuss, but if he is a minor you would need to discuss home care option etc…with the guardian/parent. Ethics would be of issue if pt was of age of consent and you told the parent who was no longer legal guardian. What did you decide to do for the case study? Sorry, I did not read this question until today.
