Clinical Boards

I had taken my clinical boards in May and failed. I haven’t seemed to gain the confidence back and am still sad about it. Does anyone have any advice for taking clinical boards, such as patient selection, order of cleaning, etc.??

DONT CHANGE ANYTHING, but… Choose to be a superhero. Win the battle! You can do it! [My First take: took 2 hours=fail. Second take: took 15min with backup pt=Passed] Your best story is yet to come. =]

When it comes to patient selection, follow the criteria set forth by the testing agency (they are pretty specific). I don’t know if you have graduated yet, but if you have see if you can take an extra clinic class so you can practice. My boards were 2 months after I graduated so my school allowed me to take a clinic class to keep my skills sharp. Speaking of sharp, make sure your instruments are sharp as can be! Regarding the order of cleaning, do what you are most comfortable with, there is no “right way.” If you change things up, you may get stressed out more than you need to be. The longer you wait to re-take, the harder its going to be, so don’t hesitate in rescheduling your boards. Practice makes perfect!
