Corners of my lips are cracking

Hey guys,
I’ve been having issues with the corners of my lips drying out and cracking. It started when I started hygiene school and wore masks all the time, then went away when we went on summer break. Now that I’m working full time, I can’t get it to go away. I’ve been using chapstick like crazy. Anybody else have this issue and have some tips for me?

It could be angular cheilitis caused by either contact dermatitis (you are allergic to your mask, so change brands) or possibly a proliferation of bacteria (impetigo), yeasts (thrush) or virus (cold sores) possibly due to the moisture in your mask. Even though it went away when you weren’t wearing a mask, angular cheilitis can also be due to nutritional deficiencies like a lack of iron or riboflavin. It’s hard to recommend treatment without knowing the cause, so it may be best for you to see a dermatologist. I sure hope you find an answer and some relief soon!
