Dental loupes and face shields

I have been using dental loupes for 15 years. The last four years with a head lamp. One of the things that I have found to not work well with a head lamp attached to my loupes is a face shield. Too cramped and cumbersome. Do you or any of your readers have a good suggestion? Taking my light off and clipping it to the shield takes about 10 minutes just to set up and I do not have an overhead light.

I’ve put some more thought into this since I got your FB message and I’m thinking maybe you need a totally different type of shield. Go online to your dental supply company’s website or flip through a catalog and take a look at what the different types they offer. Maybe a shield that is attached to a mask, so the shield comes up from the mask instead of coming down from your forehead might work better. Some hygienists wear their shields upside down so they come up from the mask area to avoid situating it around their loupes and the light. Don’t be afraid to try many different kinds of shields until you find one that works best for you so you don’t have to spend so much of your precious time just to get situated – because that’s got to be frustrating!
