desensitizers

What do you do for patients that have sensitive teeth from recession. Do you apply anything in office, what code do you use, and fees charged. Do insurances cover it? We would like to do more for our patients then just give them a sensitive toothpaste.

For patients with sensitivity, before scaling, I polish first with Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief Desensitizing Paste. My office does not charge for this. If the sensitivity requires more than just paste before scaling my dr will apply Gluma, I believe my office uses the code D9910. I’m not sure on the fee. I also recommend MI Paste (if the patient doesn’t have a milk allergy). Sometimes sensitivity stems from bruxism, for which we recommend a custom occlusal/night guard.

The sensistrips by crest .They work so good . I am school but a rep gave us samples. Maybe they could help and be available to sell cheaper at your office. They sell them at walmart and one treatment can last up to a month. At least its another option to give your patients .

D9910 $42 and Insurance does not cover. We use Brush&Bond® by Parkell.

We use several things in our office. I use Therma-trol for isolated areas following prophy, we don’t charge for this. We also use a laser for generalized desensitization, we charge $50 per quadrant. I also use tax-gel during scaling if necessary, it works great to get through scaling on those sensitive root areas.
