Does dental hygiene really work for a maximum of 4 days/32 hours per week? Will I make $70,000 per year by just working 4 days a week

I wouldn’t necessarily say a dental hygienist works only 4 days a week because it depends on the office they work for. Some offices are only open 4 days per week, so they might only work 4 days per week in that instance. The days they work per week also vary because some work in multiple offices, part time at both, temp on the side or are a temp 100% of the time, and some choose to work more or less days. There’s no set amount of days that all hygienists work. It varies greatly.

The $70,000 per year is an estimated average if a hygienist works full time, 5 days per week. And, it’s a loose average at that. Wages vary greatly state by state, county by county, and even city or town by town. The best place to see the wages for a dental hygienist is your state’s employment department (not averages from the Labor Bureau). In some parts of the country, a hygienist might make $35 per hour because the cost of living is low where they live. On the other hand, somewhere where the cost of living is high, they might make $65 per hour. Depending on the wage and how many days per week they work, again, annual wages vary greatly.

I should also mention that many hygienists do not work full time because dental hygiene is quite hard on the body. For me personally, after graduation, I did work 4-5 days per week, but my body couldn’t handle it after a while. After that, I worked 3 days per week and found that perfect for me.
