double hygiene pay

I work double hygiene with an assistant and am coming up on a year, making $36/hr with no benefits just paid holidays. Should I ask for production? What is the best pay for double hygiene with an assistant? Im seeing anywhere from 16-20 patients a day that’s including about 3-4 SRPS a day. Just want to make sure im making what Im worth.

Whether you should ask for production instead of an hourly rate of pay depends on running the numbers and seeing where each option stands. Look at your current production and from those numbers figure what 35% of your gross production is and divide that by the hours you worked. Compare this number to your hourly wage. This will give you an idea of how much you would make if you were paid production compared to what you make at an hourly rate.
There are some variables to be aware of. For instance, if you are paid production, would you receive the average rate of 35%? What procedures are considered “your production?” For instance, do you only scale while the assistant applies fluoride, takes radiographs, etc.? Basically, would you receive the production for what the assistant does? These, among others, are considerations that would affect your bottom line.
It gets a little confusing, but running your current production numbers and doing a comparison is a good start in seeing if you should ask for a change in your pay structure.
