Over 16 years of working with both, I definitely think working with a male dentist is easier. It seems as though the female dentists are always trying to prove something. They let their emotions sometimes get the better if them in the work place. Very rarely does that ever happen with a male DDS. There is nothing worse than knowing your female DDS boss is in a bad mood because she will take it out on the while office all day! This has happened with many female DDS over the years!
I think male dentist are a lot easier. To me female dentist can get ego. One female dentist use to find me every day to ask me to go get her lunch. I had to put a stop to that. Another female dentist started asking me to rub her back after i did it once as a kind jesture. I had to put a stop to that as well. When I was a dental assistant many years ago another female dentist threw a cell phone at me and asked if I could even speak english. So far the men have been kinder to me.
I have never worked for a female dentist. However, many of my friends have and they all prefer male! From what they say the female dentists seem to be more critical and controlling.
I have worked with many of each and I agree that it is more about the person than the gender. I have heard from other hygienists that they do not like working for female dentists but I have never had an issue with any of the six or so I have worked with:)
I agree with Sue. Both can be easy to work with, both can be jerks. It all depends on the individual. I haven’t noticed a huge difference with either.
I work for 2 sisters and I love them. You’d think that working with a while office of women would be tough but you are right it is more the people more than gender. Still think if rather work for a woman!
Female dentists seem to have less ego and in my experience, have been easier to work for. I have only worked with women who were associates and not owners of the practice. Perhaps that had the effect of putting us on more equal footing, in that we were all employees. It always felt as if they considered that I worked ‘with’ them rather than ‘for’ them.
I have worked for both. I have had both male and female dentist go and seat their own patient and even carry a dirty tray. Both have worked out and I have enjoyed the practice. It really depends on their personality not their gender.
I work for a female for past 9 years. Love it! I don’t think it matters with the gender of the dentist as long as you are treated with respect. A generous boss is hard to find whether male or female. All my other employers have been male.
I’ve worked for both male and female dentists and I agree it’s about the personality not gender. Some dentist are great to work with and some have horrible personalities.
I prefer male! But it really depends on the person. I worked for a female dentist but she wasn’t an owner and she was great! I work for a husband and wife team one day a wk and the wife is the “boss” most days and she is a little nuts lol! CONTROL FREAK!
