I love my flip loupes! I wear them down all the time so I never have to touch them with my gloves. I like that I can adjust them whenever I feel like it or if I need to. I was too nervous to get fixed loupes in case of measuring errors.
I started with flip because I wanted to have an option. I think for beginner loupes that was a good decision. Been wearing fixed for 4-5 yrs now and no regrets. Much lighter than flip type. What I do regret is not using a headlight sooner! Lol
As a student, I was advised by multiple instructors to get the custom with light. A big investment but one that is going to happen sooner or later . My loupes should be delivered in the next week. I am super excited! E
Fixed occulars are great! I love my loupes and have had a wonderful experience with them..I havent heard many great things about flip ups
Flip up loupes were what I started with but I soon realized they were too heavy, they bothered my neck. I love my through the lens loupes with headlamp, much better. Snap on optics has great product and customer service. The other two companies I’ve worked with had poor products and poor customer service.
I have Surgitel which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! When I flip them up I can read a chart because I have “readers” built in to the frame. It can be changed if my prescription changes. You can also clean with soap and water or Cavicide wipes. The led light is fantastic. My old loupes did not have this ability.
I put off buying loupes for my semester in clinic because of the steep price ($1500), but after getting harped on for “diving in”, I decided I needed to suck it up and buy them. It was a good decision, and I wish I had done it sooner! Also if you buy from Orascoptic, you get a student discount AND the loupes come with a lifetime warranty so really the price is worth it in the long run.
I had DFV TTL for 8 years……($1200). I had severe pain in neck, shoulders, arms, wrists and hands. Thought I would be disabled soon. At first the DFV helped ergonomics from being able to see better… The Designs for Vision salesman didn’t know much about ergonomics. I trusted him to know how to fit me correctly. Over the years I have done my research and I thnk I’d be better at fitting hygienists for loopes than any of the salesmen I’ve come across over the years.
I’ve recently bought SurgiTel Radar Flip up with motion activated light. Immediately from the first use I noticed all my pain was slowly going away. The new loupes provide a very step declination angle and I even went up in magnification fom DFV 2.5 to a SurgiTel 3.5 magnification. Best $2200 I’ve ever spent. Wish I had SurgiTel from day one. Wish I had thoroughly researched and knew what to look for from day one. I owe my vast knowledge of loupes to Posturedontics.
