Geographic Tongue

I recently had a patient arrive for her 6mrc. and was diagnosed 1 mo. prior with having geographic tongue by her physician. Her concern was that her diet had to drastically change because her tongue was so sensitive. She was looking for any options that were out there in regards to helping with the newfound sensitivity. She also stated switching to kids toothpaste because there was less of a burn.

During the appt. we talked about gentle brushing with soft bristle brush, considering a more natural toothpaste option, some options I gave her were: Spry, Tom’s with fl., Jason’s, and Theodent.

Any other tips or products I can pass along her way would be greatly appreciated!!

I would recommend avoiding anything acidic or spicy. Drink lots of water. Your recommendations for toothpastes is good since minty toothpastes can be irritating for those with geographic tongue or burning tongue syndrome.
