I do know of hygienists that have had to retire from clinical hygiene due to injury of their hands. However, that didn’t stop them from giving up hygiene all together. There are other career paths you can take! For instance, dental companies are eager to hire hygienists to be company reps, you can become an educator or consultant even. While the door may have closed for clinical work, the door for adjusting your career path hasn’t. Where you take your career next just depends where your interests lie. I wish you the very best of luck and a speedy recovery if you undergo surgery!
