This depends on what they are offering hourly or on production. Regarding hourly, you want to know what the pay is for your area; I recommend checking your state’s employment department website for occupational wage breakdown. This is more accurate than salary.com or “salary surveys” I’ve seen floating around Facebook. Remember wages vary not only state to state, but county to county. Regarding production, you should make 35% of all production done in your operatory, production – not collection. I tend to shy away from production because in my experience I’ve seen it mess with the “team” aspect of an office. If there isn’t someone in your chair, you aren’t getting paid, which also hinders your ability to help your team out as far as stocking, sterilizing instruments, etc. which can cause tension and make you look like a “prima donna” hygienist. So again, you need to know what they are offering to make the best decision.
