I just read your article that you published in July regarding infection control. do hygiene hand pieces need sterilized after every patient when using a disposable prophy angles. We are currently sterilizing at the end of each work day.

Yes, hygiene handpieces are what I’m specifically talking about in the article. CDC and OSAP both state that they must be heat sterilized in between each patient even if you are using a disposable prophy angle. Studies have shown the internal motor can become contaminated which is why surface disinfecting and barriers aren’t enough.
