I need advice on my hours getting cut and approaching this subject with the doctors.

How do I approach my Doctors about the new change in hygiene hours from 29 to 22 hours a week? We even have 4 days a month of two hygienists which they are going to stop. I am not thrilled about losing hours, but think it is a terrible idea making patients wait weeks to months to get an appointment. (I was Tues 11-7, Wed 8-5 Thur 11-5 and Fri 7-2…will be Mon 11-7, Wed 10-5 and Fri 7-2) I have been with them 10 years and worked only in this office, now I am looking at taking up a 2 day week P/T position to help my personal finances…They seem to have the attitude, “You are lucky to have a job” I do not want to leave this practice. I am 100% committed to this office and my patients. I feel they are not easy to talk to when it comes to “their” office, yet they want us to be “business partners”, not employees…..Looking for ideas to advise, Thanks

They should get the proper training for the whole office so that maybe the hygiene department can be profitable. Also being on too many insurance plans that have huge write offs aren’t worth it. Take some courses on diagnosing periodontal disease and become active with a solid periodontal program for your office. Make yourself more valuable by educating yourself with verbiage and techniques to bring up your A game. Find out how to sell the treatments that are necessary….I don’t mean push electric toothbrushes/adult fluoride etc….how to discuss restorative and preventative treatments.
