Laser

Lovely colleagues-
Would you please explain to me step by step how you use laser for decontamination after SRP and periodontal Therapy? What are your office fees are for laser and if you know the ADA codes for them? Have you ever broken a laser tip in patient’s mouth? what did you do if you could not find it?
We just started using laser and I would love to know your experience about it- Thank you for sharing your knowledge

Have you taken a laser certification class? Is using a laser in your scope of practice per your state’s dental practice act? I ask these things because if you take the required class, they cover all of these points.

We use the laser after nspt or perio main. After scaling, irrigate with chx gluconate, use laser to decontaminate then antibiotic therapy. We billed D0499 I think- unspecified perio procedure for $50 fee. Never broke a tip, use 10mm tip so if it broke it’s so long I don’t see retrieval being a problem. Hope this helps…

Agreed. I would not recommend you use any new technology without the proper education. A Laser Cert course will address each question.

I agree with the need for a certification course. They offer hands on with a patient. Well worth it. We bill the misc perio code $50 for de-epithelialuzation @ quad and $35 @ quad for decontamination.
