I 100% recommend getting the light if you are getting loupes. In fact, even if you don’t end up getting loupes, getting a light to attach to your eyewear is a HUGE plus. If I had to pick loupes over light, I’d pick light every time. Just saying. Whenever I forget to charge my light and it goes out during the cleaning, It is a huge problem for me only using the overhead light with my loupes. Luckily this has only happened two times and both times it was the end of the cleaning (polishing/flossing) or applying fluoride!

I have Q-Optics and haven’t had any issues, although other colleagues of mine are also satisfied with their loupes from Orascoptic, Surgitel, etc…. meaning you probably can’t go wrong with whatever company you pick. Some companies offer unique eyewear styles if that appeals to you.

Be sure to be fitted by a representative, they take measurements to make your loupes specific to your height and view range.

Best of luck!

I use Orascoptic and I have not had any problems with them. I’ve had them since I started hygiene school back in 2008 and they are still working great for me. My fellow classmates purchased much cheaper ones back then and they broke just after graduating. I would recommend spending the little bit more money for quality ones versus the cheaper options as they last longer. Saying this I do wish I had purchased the light for mine, it is a goal for me in the near future. Loupes are great and you will love yours!

I dont love the particular loupes i have – theyre flips and theyre heavy … but my back has been great since i got them. I was against the headlight at first because it adds more weight … but now its a must ! I struggle when i use the overhead light now .

I have been a practicing hygienist for almost 32 years now. I bought my first pair of loupes last year, with a light. I wish I’d done it years ago. I love both the loupes and the light. I have several patients with light sensitivity that said they prefer the loupes light.
