Definitely advise your Doctor as soon as possible. This will allow time to find a temp to cover for you. The longer you wait , the less time you give them to find a temp and you may put them in a bind.
Do you mean get paid while on maternity leave? Ummm…definitely no! My office gives only 6 weeks unpaid or 8 weeks unpaid for a C-section. If I could get paid leave I would for sure think about having a third kid. That would be awesome! I am curious to see if anyone does get paid leave. And congrats on the little one 🙂
No ma’am! I had two children but no paid leave. I had the option of saving vacation time to cover part of it. I just saved money knowing I would be out.
NJ considers maternity short term disability for 8 weeks… Aflac & probably other disability insurances may have a short term policy that you can pay into… I unfortunately was let go & position given to temp due to baby in NICU for 3 months
It would be great to have paid maternity leave. I had a 12 week unpaid maternity leave when I had my youngest. I had worked for the office for almost 4 years at that time.
First, congratulations! I’ve never received maternity leave with pay. Of course by law you have the right to take 3 months off. However, without an income that can be difficult. Many people here have used short term disability, I’m just not sure if you would be eligible since you’re already pregnant. Also, you can see if your spouse’ work offers maternity leave that he can use after 1-2 months off by you.
I am a temporary hygienist and work for lots of different dentists. I have only known one much older, childless, generous dentist who has paid for maternity and medical leave for his staff. He paid both my and the regular hygienists salary when she was on extended maternity leave for a very premature birth and then 2 years later did the same for a year while the hygienist dealt with breastfeeding cancer. Dentist like this man are a rare breed. I have never known another who covered maternity. I am frequently told that it is great that they have me to fill in because otherwise the hygienist would otherwise loose their job. Maybe you could come back slowly. Maybe just a couple days at first. Congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy and I hope you are able to take the time you need.
My office let me take all the time I wanted unpaid. 🙁 Once my disability from EDD was done I was on my own. I cashed in all my vacation and just saved to make up for the lost income.
I was able to take off as long as I wanted NYS disability paid, (minimally) for 6 weeks as I had a c section, and took 2 extra weeks unpaid
I loved my job when I got pregnant. They celebrated with throwing a great baby shower. I was not paid an leave but saved money for 8 months. The week before I was suppossed to return to work I was notified that they gave the temp my job. It took forever to find work again. Good luck to you & congrats on the new baby
I live outside Toronto. I have never heard of a dentist topping up mat leave pay. But we get unemployment pay for up to one year for mat leave. It maxs out at about $450 a week though. Do you ladies not get anything or have your jobs guaranteed when you return?
