Miserable at my current office. Am I alone?

I have been feeling miserable at work due toy boss and his inconsistencies. I feel like any time I get comfortable and I’m doing a good job he knocks me down for something trivial. You can’t have an opinion on things you don’t agree with cause he is always right and won’t listen. The office is small but high tech but it’s just so quiet and unstimulating that I feel like I’m the only one who laughs during the day. His assistant is moody and will sometimes not speak to me all day cause she’s “depressed”. I’m just finding I’m bored and losing motivation and dreading going to work. I have decided to go back to school to be a vet tech cause I just don’t think I wanna do this anymore. Am I wrong to feel this way? Am I alone?

There are good practices out there, it just sounds like you landed in a real dud of an office. Maybe do some tempting to see if hygiene is still what you want to do…don’t let this current practice decide your career future.

I am so sorry. Don’t let one bad apple ruin a good career. I am just out of school but my wife is a dental assistant and it took her many different jobs to land in a good place. Keep strong and keep looking for your place. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Start job hunting! You will find a place that’s right for you. I was hired for my first job at a “seemingly great office” but the longer I was there, the more I learned it wasn’t where I wanted to be. It started turning into a dental mill, patients were constantly unhappy, making me uncomfortable and flustered. I was doing 10 patients a day, most new patients, 1 hour each. I was rushed, stressed, and exhausted. I put out a resume and within 2 days was contacted and offered a new job. I’m so glad I took the leap and got out. I was a little scared because I had become complacent with the job I had, but with my new job, I have more freedom, I’m able to use skills I hadn’t used since hygiene school.

Temping is a good way to continue practicing without being tied to one office, and who knows, you might find a perfect office while temping and get offered a job! Don’t give up on a great career, you have the power to change so many people’s lives!
