If the patient got staph from your office, I would think other people would have contracted it too. Something to think about – about 25% of the population carry staph in the nose, mouth, or “nether regions.” Quite frankly, the patient could have infected himself or even had a cut that wasn’t washed properly and infected himself. I’m not certain how the patient could pin point it to your office, but that’s just my thoughts. If the patient is certain it came from your office, I would think he would report it to OSHA. If reported to OSHA, they will come to your office and do an inspection. If your infection control protocols are up to par, I imagine you wouldn’t have a problem. I can’t say this for sure though. Another scenario is that the patient could hire an attorney. However, you really have to be patient and see how it plays out.
