Perio chart

Subbing at an office. I ask about perio chart, they say they don’t do them?? And that the Dr. handles that… Really confused here. How am I suppoSed to recommend SRP’s??? I’m a new hygienists so I’m just going with the flow, but doesn’t feel right. I was taught in school that a perio chart is done with every new patient and updated once a year. Thoughts?

That office obviously does not have a solid Perio Program. I filled in at an office that did not perio chart and I perio charted every patient and educated the patient. When doc would do the exam he would tell them that as you get older you get gum disease. You need to have a talk with the doc and tell him how important it is to have a solid periodontal protocol. Tell him if his office does nothing for pt with perio disease then he is supervising neglect. Not to make perio all about production, but the hygiene side can produce more if diagnosing the correct treatments on patients. Also keep in mind whether selective S/RP or full quads S/RP every 3-4 month appt fatter that will always be 4910: Perio Maintenance for the LIFE of the patient. Do not alternate 1110 and 4910 every other time.

I’m not familiar with the comp system and I’ve been trying to find where to make a chart. They use dentrix.

There is an odd looking icon on the Dentrix tool bar. It looks like a fat probe. If you scroll over it, it should tell you it is perio. When you get into the chart, go to the upper left and click on the “new charting” icon and it should pull up for you to use.
One of the best ways to get familiar with a new program, just click on icons to find out what they are…you can always close them out if it is not what you are looking for. 🙂
