I have worked in both settings. My experience was that I made more in a perio office. The work is definitely more involved since you are seeing periodontal patients that have been referred from general practice. Lots of subgingival scaling and root planing. I stayed in that setting for 5 years until my body just couldn’t take anymore. After a few months off I went back to general practice working only half days. I make approximately $4 less and hour now. Money is not everything since my practicing days have been shortened.
