The use of an ultrasonic scaler and polishers are in fact not contraindicated for use on HIV positive patients.

I read that is was contraindicated in outdated research and old editions of some text books but the view has changed since then. I have used ultrasonic scalers and polished on HIV patients and feel comfortable doing do.
Think this way: not all patients will disclose an infectious disease. You treat everyone as if they are infected with every disease there is which is why we use universal precautions and PPE. Also, check the CDC website. It’s full of information.
