Investing in a Naber’s Probe could be very helpful with detection. I also go by my probing depths & double check with the Naber’s probe after.
Question: Detecting furcations in max molars | May 8, 2020
Both of my offices have closed, my co-hygienists have already applied. We know it might not be much but we need to survive during this time. California Dental Association recommended we close for 2 weeks but I think ADA is now recommending 3 weeks. Hopefully this all blows over soon! I would ask your employer if you have any questions, mine have been super helpful!
Question: Offices Shutting Down Due to COVID-19 | March 16, 2020
They are having a CE course tonight online. I’ll link it below, hopefully it can answer more questions regarding the virus for us.
Question: CDC doesn't address any dental procedures as high risk to HCP. Aren't all handpiece/ultrasonic procedures high risk for us? | March 10, 2020
I have given one palatial injection since graduating four years ago & it was on my doctor because he was having sutures removed & requested it. I find it’s not necessary because the teeth are quite numb. If a patient has sensitive tissue there I will apply topical but the tooth itself should be numb from PSA, MSA, ASA already. Just my personal experience.
Question: Palatal Injections | March 3, 2020
I took one review course that I’ll link below. They gave us a study guide & went over common things on the exam. I only studied that book & passed my first time. The course is extremely helpful & the book is amazing. I think you can only get one by attending the course. They review the entire thing & go over key points. Definitely worth the money.
Question: Review for the NBDHE | February 29, 2020
We always follow whatever the surgeon recommends whether it follows ADA guidelines or not. I would think if we chose not to we could be held liable for any consequences resulting from the patient not taking their premed…since we were the ones who told the patient not to premedicate.
Question: Premedication | January 24, 2020

Question: Interactions of local anesthetics and marijuana? | October 17, 2019
I would try to find some free perio pamphlets to give it patients. We also do follow up calls after any SRP, just to see how patient is doing & encourage POI for soreness & hygiene- also asking if they have any more questions for us. We have a pretty good retention rate for post SRP’s. I also let patients know during their first visit of SRP that afterwards we will likely be doing more frequent appointments than every 6 months to maintain all the hard work we’ve been doing. We do zoom whitening at my office but it does require an appointment due to the needed assistant time. How about selling take home whitening strips (like crest), we do that but we are able to get higher concentration than the OTC ones sold in stores. Patients seem to like those.
Question: ways to increase hygiene production and build value for perio maintenance visits | June 27, 2019
I took the NBDHE two years ago & also attended the seminar prior to it. I thought the book itself was plenty helpful enough. I read through it multiple times in prep for boards yet still felt completely unprepared & was sure I failed but I didn’t! Passed with flying colors! I think a month is plenty of time. But prepare yourself to feel unprepared & defeated. I haven’t talked to one person who felt good about the exam but they all passed. You will do fine, just stick to the review book! It’s awesome!

I am curious to see how you confronted them with this info & situation. Please do an update on how it went & what you did!
