Reuse of sterilization pouches

Has anyone worked in an office that reuses sterilization pouches? I subbed in an office the other day and they just taped the pouches shut with indicator tape. Just wondering if I should notify the dental board?

Reusing sterilization pouches is not good – the instruments may not be sterile! I would notify OSHA. Here is a great article by Noel Kelsch, RDHAP, regarding sterile pouches, check it out! http://www.rdhmag.com/articles/print/volume-30/issue-2/columns/infection-control/selfndashadhesive-sterilization-pouches.html

I agree that reuse of sterilization bags is not acceptable. I would educate the office on the matter and give them the opportunity to rectify it. If they are not receptive, I would notify OSHA and start looking for a new job! You could offer to be the in office OSHA queen and get them up to proper “code”.
