Our office has cameras and sound recorded in the office, It is posted outside the building and they are visible. For Security. It has never bothered staff, and we never felt it was because our boss wanted to know what we were talking about. It has been years, it hasn’t changed the way we deal with each other or patients. If this was done without us knowing it would be different. I am not even sure if it is legal. ?

I knew I had read about this same type of dilemma. Here is the link to RDHMag and Dianne Glasscoe Watterson’s answer. Hope this helps.

Oh dear, I hope not. If an employer did that to me, I would definitely consider finding a new job. If they have no trust in your abilities, that to me means the boss is suspicious, untrusting and quite frankly, a bit unstable.
Did this happen to you, One direct RDH?

I worked at an office that had cameras but no audio and it wasn’t a secret. It has to be illegal for you to be taped secretly. I would not work there anymore if it were me.

That would be a little too extreme for me…safety cameras in exterior areas is different…in staff areas seems creepy

Does seem creepy, esp if it’s a “secret.” I don’t think you’re supposed to do that! :-/

My office has cameras everywhere, including the staff lounge. To make matters worse, my boss sits at his desk with about 4 different monitors on all day watching, pretty creepy. Totally gives a new meaning to micromanagement!

I’ve heard of this happening and actually watched videos of this. More or less it wasn’t exactly a “secret” per say teams are given a heads up that basically they will have what I relate to as a secret shopper but basically a pt that will be sent in randomly to record them but they will have no idea who or when it’s happening. It is somewhat educational, and it’s mostly audio that I’ve heard @ meetings of other hygienist but still I’m not thrilled w/ the idea @ all.
