Did he mention a reason for this? Is he worried about you using too much of your time on it or wearing out instruments early? We once had a hygienist that was a crazy sharpener, tried to make everything into a sickle and wore out instruments way faster that she should have. Maybe he had an experience like that before? Maybe reassure him about your sharpening technique. If its really just a time thing, sounds like micromanager. Besides we all know sharp instruments help us get our patients out of the chair faster!

Sounds like a MicroManager Boss. Buy the American Eagle no sharpen instruments. That’ll stop the OCD instrument sharpening and the complaining boss. Save you time and hassle to boot.

Is there something else your boss would rather have you do in your down time? Sharp instruments are important, unless your boss wants to buy you the more expensive, no sharpen instruments, it is a necessity. IMO
