Starting pay in Montana

I am a newly graduate & I’ve been assisting til a hygiene position has opened. Recently started practicing hygiene, I have been busy with assisting and hygiene duties that I didn’t discuss pay with my employer. Now regretfully I make $22 an hour, is this fair? I need tip on ways to talk to the dentist about my pay rate & to justify.

Wages vary widely depending on where you live. To find out the average pay rate for your area, visit your State’s Employment Department or Bureau of Labor’s website, and you can find up-to-date information for your local area. Here are two links: http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes292021.htm and on page 62 of this site: http://lmi.mt.gov/media/9358/oes-wage.pdf. In the future, always discuss wage first before accepting a job or new position within the office. Use these websites to show your dentist. Allowing yourself to be underpaid brings the whole profession down and its up to us as individuals to stand up for ourselves!
