Hey! So in our office we are discussing waterpik vs flossing. Some people believe flossing is not as good as the waterpik and that the waterpik reaches pockets up to 6mm. Now other strongly believe that is not true and flossing is the way to go..just wondering everyone’s opinion
Flossing all the way is my first choice. Waterpik as an adjunct with proper instructions on technique, but i like to keep it simple for pts so they are more compliant. Pts can cause damage with improper usage. I tell them using a Waterpik alone is like thinking your going to get a dirty vehicle clean by spraying it with water and not scrubbing it. As we all know plaque forms a biofilm that adheres to teeth and cannot simply be flushed away. I often rec. proxabrushes as an adjunct flossing.
I think waterpik removed soft non-adherent food debris etc…. Floss actually cleans the contacts of the crown of the tooth where food is stuck not just the gingiva.
