I agree with WarnerSL. When I can I help with any and every aspect of the dental office. I can take payments, make financial arrangements, present treatment, check insurance benefits…..the list is endless. Heck, I’ll even change the toilet paper roll before it is completely empty AND I fold the end like the fancy hotel maid service does!

Other than providing hygiene services I schedule my patients for hygiene recall and restorative work with Dr. I also help out front office with answering the phone when I’m available. I call short call to fill my schedule. I also call patients if they are overdue for hygiene. I help out in sterile if it gets backed up and take limited exams on Dr’s side if I don’t have a patient. I try to keep myself handy and busy if my schedule allows and it’s much appreciated by the assistants and Dr.

Well I do everything! I am the only full-time hygienist and there are only 3 other employees so we all wear multiple hats but I read an article recently I think in RDH magazine that said any non-hygiene duties were a waste of our production time and that we should not be expected to perform duties beyond the scope of hygiene. I thought it seemed a little snobbish and elitist and It may be the best thing for large multi-doctor practices but I think we all need to adapt to our environments!

I work in a crazy busy office so our sterilization area is usually backed up. I always go there first if I don’t have a pt. if I still have time after that I usually go try to fill my schedule.

In my office I help with sterilization, assist the dentist if needed. I’m the only hygienist and it gets busy. I help out where ever I can when I can 🙂

In our office I Assist, run the front, answer phones, sterilization, and hygiene. We all share the load, we actually have cleaning duties before we open up which i’m not always happy about but it’s okay.
