What happens if you get audited and dont have all your CE?

I was not really organized my first renewal period and never compiled all my CE certificates. Now I am trying to find them all, but I cant find 5 units worth. And I have absolutely no clue what classes they could have been from. What would happen if i was audited but could not produce them?

You will need to check your state’s Board of Dentistry website for the specifics, but if you are audited without having all of your CEs, your license may be suspended until you complete them and the Board has confirmed. If you practice without your required CEs, you and your doctor may be fined. This also goes on public record if anyone looks up your license.

I would suggest signing up with CE Zoom. They keep your CE certificates digitally and can even track what you need according to your state requirements.

A friend of mine- house flooded and she lost all her paperwork. She was audited and could not provide the paperwork for the previous 2 years- she was audited for past 3… which really makes sense because we renew every 2… but even her boss submitted paperwork where he had paid for the entire staff to attend meetings and they would not accept that because it was not proof she attended . $700 FINE!
I would say MAKE IT A PRIORITY to get your hours – before renewing – just in case and keep great records – copy/scan proof of all certificates. If you are short on hours most states allow about half to be done online – Crest has free ones .

Go to dentalcare.com and take some online courses. They’re fairly easy but also convenient as they are all online. I take one if I have a pt. no-show or a little extra time, it’s nice to have a cushion. Plus they email the certs to you. I keep mine in a file in my email so I can access them from anywhere.
