Use third person when talking about the job….Avoid sounding as though you assume the job is already yours.
Don’t talk too much.
Ask how the doctor would react if a patient was mad and started yelling at the employees.
Ask how the doctor would handle a patient sexually harassing or saying rude comments.
Leave behind drama or gossip about previous offices.
What are you hoping to find in the person you hire?
What would be top job priority here?
Research the offices website, FB, twitter etc…share some common interests or procedures from their website to talk about.
When they ask if you have any questions…… Always have a couple of questions. They want to feel that you are interested in this job.
Do not call and bother, but send a written thank you note same day especially depending on age of employer. If they are into social networks and you have already been communicating through email then send a thank you email.

If you have a chance to observe the staff or talk with them at all, this is many times the best indicator of how an office runs. Many staff that are not happy are willing to share that with you.

Outside of that, I would ask about their perio program, ie; what percentage of their hygiene is perio and what is the standard for referral , how much time is given for hygiene treatments, does the doctor like input from the hygienist during exams.
I know pay and benefits are important, but so is being happy at work. 🙂

at the interview ask:
how much time is given
what dds is looking for his RDH
your responsibilities as far as ordering, appt setting/confiming
is there and asst for you? what can you expect from them
ALWAYS do a working interview and ask the other staff how they like working there….
who pays for CE /uniforms
Keep thank you cards and stamps in your car and on the way home mail a short note to the DDS “thanks for your time…”

Ask about instruments (when/how things are ordered), if hygienists schedule their own recalls, any different xray frequency differences from the “standard,” (ex fmx or PAs after a certain amount of time), if they allow time off or encourage CE opportunities… And of course whatever comes to mind!

For me I always want to know how much time I’m given for a hygiene appointment FIRST!. I also want to know if the hygienist get to run her own perio program or is it under the direct direction of what that dentist wants. Finally I’m interested in retirement, benefits and flexibility of schedule:) hope it helps

I ask how much time am I given for new patients, prophys, children, perio maintenance, and SRP appointments. I ask what kind of software do they use, what brand of digital sensor do they use, is health insurance offered, are bonues an option and if so how is that earned, what type of instruments are available in the hygiene packs, does the front desk schedule appointments or does the hygienist, is there a sterilization employee or does everyone pitch in to get it done and what does the dr look for when recommending SRP to a patient.

I would ask how much flexibility there is in scheduling. If you schedule you’re own recare appt you’ll have more control over this.
